World music and contemporary percussion master Ray McNamara shares his unique musical perspective, performing a blend of soca (soul of calypso) and jazz on the Steel Pan Drum.
Learn a little of the history and evolution of this surprisingly modern 20th century instrument, which was originally resourcefully created out of found objects. The audience will be treated to the magical island tones of the Steel Pan and have the opportunity to try out instruments and be part of a drum circle.
During this lecture, Jay Rossette will highlight some of his personal experiences in the valley music scene, and discuss how music is created. He will talk about song inspirations, working with musicians, solo songwriting, basic musical form, and how to compose simple tunes so that the audience can see exactly which elements are used to construct songs.
This lecture will discuss the ways in which music has evolved, and how music has morphed across cultures through recent developments in technology. Jay Rossette will also talk about future musical trends. He will play audio clips during this lecture.

Travis Brooks, local musician from the band Saltwater, formerly of Doc’s Holiday, will be facilitating a music workshop just for teens. Teens will have the opportunity to build their very own cigar box guitar and take it home.
Travis will share the remarkable history of this musical instrument, as well as teach participants to play a few bars to start them on their musical journey. No experience necessary, but this workshop has a limited number of openings, please register in advance.
The Fratello Marionettes produce high quality marionette shows where every last detail is designed and built by the performers themselves. 'The Vaudeville Follies,' a marionette variety show, is presented in the spirit of the old time music hall. The puppeteers perform in full view of the audience with marionettes that can be up to three feet tall, and include singers, dancers, clowns, trick marionettes, and a trained dog!
Dr. Salo Stanley will talk about healing with sound therapy. Sound therapy puts us in a relaxed mood and helps us to regain that sense of joy and creativity we had when we were children. Dr. Stanley will use crystal singing bowls, tuning forks, and a native American flute to introduce the audience to sound therapy and how it feels.
